About Toyota Financial Services South Africa
Toyota Financial Services South Africa (TFS) is the SA subsidiary of Toyota Financial Services Corporation, Toyota's global captive finance arm. TFS finances new and used Toyota, Lexus and Hino vehicles only — if you're buying a different brand, you can't use TFS even if you'd be a strong applicant.
TFS's strategic role: support Toyota dealer sales by underwriting deals the universal banks would price more conservatively, and run subvented (manufacturer-subsidised) promotional rates on specific models to clear stock or stimulate demand. These promotional rates can dip below prime on slow-moving variants — a Toyota-only offer that no universal SA bank will match. The non-promotional 'rack rate' is in line with WesBank and MFC at around prime + 2%.

Toyota Financial Services vehicle finance — frequently asked questions
What is Toyota Financial Services?
Toyota Financial Services South Africa (TFS) is Toyota's captive finance company — a subsidiary of Toyota Financial Services Corporation that exists to finance Toyota, Lexus and Hino vehicles for SA buyers. It's a registered National Credit Provider, regulated by the National Credit Regulator on the same terms as a bank, and operates under SARB oversight via partner-bank arrangements for funding. From a borrower's perspective the loan works identically to a bank VAF — same NCA protections, same monthly admin fee structure, same affordability assessment.
Can I use Toyota Financial Services to buy any car?
No — TFS only finances Toyota, Lexus and Hino vehicles. If you're buying a Volkswagen, Ford, Nissan, Hyundai, Kia, BMW, Mercedes-Benz or any non-Toyota-group brand, you'll need to use one of the universal SA banks (WesBank, MFC, Standard Bank VAF, Absa) or that brand's own captive financier. The brand restriction is the central trade-off of using a captive financier.
Are Toyota Financial Services rates better than WesBank?
It depends on whether there's a current subvented promotional offer. On a 'rack rate' basis (no manufacturer subsidy), TFS prices in line with WesBank and MFC at around prime + 1.5% to + 2.5%. On promotional offers — typically launched on slow-moving stock or end-of-model-year clearance — TFS can drop to prime − 0.25% or below, an offer no universal SA bank will match. Always ask the Toyota dealer specifically whether there's a current TFS subvention on the model you want, and compare it to a WesBank quote on the same vehicle.
Can I get balloon finance from Toyota Financial Services?
Yes — TFS offers balloon finance on new Toyota, Lexus and Hino vehicles up to 40%, with the standard caveats: you still pay interest on the deferred balance every month, and the balloon is due as a single lump at term-end. TFS also offers 'Access' (their version of a balloon-with-buy-back-guarantee) on selected models, where the captive will buy the car back at the residual value if it's in good condition — useful for buyers who plan to upgrade to a new Toyota every 3–4 years anyway.
Does Toyota Financial Services finance used Toyotas?
Yes, on used Toyota, Lexus and Hino vehicles bought from a Toyota-franchised dealership and within approved age and mileage limits (typically up to 8 years old, under 200,000km at point of finance). Private-sale used Toyotas are usually routed through a universal bank rather than TFS. The certified-pre-owned (CPO) Toyota stock at franchised dealers is the natural sweet spot for TFS used-car finance — the car is warranted by Toyota and underwritten by Toyota Financial Services in one bundle.
