About BMW Financial Services South Africa
BMW Financial Services South Africa is the SA subsidiary of BMW Group's global captive finance and leasing business. It finances new and used BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad (motorcycles) only. As with Toyota Financial Services, the captive's role is to support brand sales — most dealer-floor BMW finance applications go to BMW FS first, with Standard Bank VAF or WesBank as the back-up if BMW FS declines or under-prices.
BMW FS's positioning: typically more competitive than universal banks on premium-vehicle finance because the captive is willing to underwrite a larger residual value (higher confidence in BMW's resale market) and has access to manufacturer subvention budget on slow-moving stock. BMW FS also runs 'Select' (balloon with optional buy-back guarantee) on most models, which is the SA flavour of the European 'Personal Contract Purchase' product.

BMW Financial Services vehicle finance — frequently asked questions
What is BMW Financial Services?
BMW Financial Services South Africa is BMW Group's captive finance arm in SA — a registered National Credit Provider that exists to finance BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad vehicles for SA buyers. It's regulated by the National Credit Regulator on the same terms as a bank. From a borrower's perspective the loan works identically to a bank VAF: same NCA protections, same fee structure, same affordability assessment.
Can I finance any car through BMW Financial Services?
No — BMW FS only finances new and used BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad vehicles. If you're buying a Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Toyota or any non-BMW-group brand, you'll need to use one of the universal SA banks (WesBank, MFC, Standard Bank VAF, Absa) or that brand's own captive (Mercedes-Benz Financial Services, Audi Financial Services, etc.). The brand restriction is the trade-off of using a captive financier.
Is BMW Financial Services cheaper than Standard Bank VAF?
On premium BMW models, often yes. BMW FS is willing to underwrite higher residual values on its own brand (because the captive has confidence in BMW's resale market), and has access to manufacturer subvention budget on selected models. On a R900,000 BMW with 20% deposit and 35% balloon, BMW FS will frequently quote prime + 1% to prime + 1.5% (11.25–11.75%), versus prime + 1.75% to prime + 2.25% from Standard Bank VAF on the same deal. Always get both quotes — and if Standard Bank's offer is cheaper, BMW FS will often match.
What is BMW Select?
BMW Select is BMW Financial Services' balloon-with-buy-back product — the SA equivalent of the European Personal Contract Purchase. You finance the car over 36–48 months with a large balloon (typically 35–50%, set against a guaranteed BMW future value). At term end you have three options: (1) pay the balloon and keep the car, (2) refinance the balloon over a further term, or (3) hand the car back to BMW FS for the guaranteed buy-back amount, with no further obligation. Useful for buyers who plan to upgrade to a new BMW every 3–4 years anyway.
Does BMW Financial Services finance used BMWs?
Yes, on used BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad vehicles bought from a BMW-franchised dealership and within approved age and mileage limits. The certified-pre-owned 'BMW Premium Selection' stock is the natural sweet spot — the car is warranted by BMW SA and underwritten by BMW FS in one bundle. Private-sale used BMWs are usually routed through a universal bank instead, because BMW FS prefers franchised-dealer stock where the residual value is more predictable.
