About De Hoek Toll Plaza

The N3 is South Africa's busiest intercity highway, handling an estimated 20,000+ vehicles per day between the Gauteng economic hub and the port city of Durban. N3 Toll Concession (N3TC) was awarded the Build-Operate-Transfer concession for the N3 between Johannesburg and Cedara (near Pietermaritzburg) in 1999, for a 30-year term. De Hoek marks the start of the concession section and is the entry point for the toll corridor heading south. N3TC introduced contactless tap-and-go payments at all their plazas in late 2024.
